Do you want to play a supporting role in helping children in Hampshire?
The role of the Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT) will involve working within the Communication and Interaction Team which is part of the Specialist Teacher Advisory (STA) Service. The Communication and Interaction Team support children / young people across Hampshire who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. We support children with EHCPs in both mainstream and special educational needs settings. We are looking to increase our provision, particularly across our mainstream and commissioned services, which will involve working in collaboration with our Specialist Therapists, holding your own caseload and contributing to wider service development via supervision and CPD opportunities.
The postholder will be responsible for providing essential therapy, interventions, and class-based support to a caseload of children and young people with a wide range of communication and learning difficulties. An ideal candidate will have a sound knowledge of supporting the communication and interaction needs of young people within an education context. They will have excellent clinical and theoretical understanding and experience of applying this understanding with children. They will have the ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, being able to communicate effectively with colleagues, educational settings, and other professionals. They will understand the need for reflective practice, flexibility, and the importance of confidentiality. This will be supported through a variety of supervision opportunities, access to Specialist care pathways and direct support from specialist colleagues, where this has been identified by the post holder.
This post is suitable for anyone wishing to develop their clinical understanding of working with children within a variety of educational contexts, across a range of therapeutic areas. We would be supportive of applications from both established Speech and Language Therapists looking to develop their skills within a local authority service, and those who are newly qualified practitioners; as our service support structure means that we can offer the supportive work environment that a newly qualified, but highly motivated, Therapist would also thrive in.
Working within the Specialist Teacher Advisory Service, you will cover an extensive area of Hampshire, therefore please note you must be able to meet the travel requirements of the role. Generally, this means that you will require a full driving licence and access to a car, but reasonable adjustments to this requirement will be considered to cater for a declared disability.
