Job/Person Summary

The successful candidate will be expected to:

- Have a good understanding of Autism and how this can impact learning

- Manage a range of visual aids to enable access to learning

- Maintain a high level of support for the child’s social, emotional and learning needs

- Implement learning activities to enable the child to have access to the planned curriculum

- Help the child to develop social skills and appropriate interactions with their peers

- Have a good understanding of sensory and processing needs and a child centred approach  

to co-regulating

- Support the delivery of interventions to promote social and emotional wellbeing

- Have an awareness of the PACE approach to interaction

- Have high expectations of the pupil and be an advocate for their needs

- Work closely with and be accountable to the class teacher, who will give guidance on the

nature and extent of the support and supervision

- Meet regularly with the SENCO and contribute to the planning and reviewing of

personalised learning plans / annual reviews

- Liaise with a range of professionals external to the school

- Monitor and evaluate patterns in behaviour, providing timely intervention to promote

wellbeing

- Develop a good relationship with other children in the class by encouraging and motivating

- Follow all school policies

- Treat all school matters as confidential

- Attend appropriate inset / training opportunities

 

Person Specification

- Have a professional approach to all aspects of school life

- Have excellent communication skills both written and verbal

- Have appropriate levels of literacy and numeracy (GCSE grade C or above desirable)

- Have a good understanding of how poor social and emotional wellbeing can affect learning

opportunities

- Have extensive experience of parent liaison

- Be able to work effectively as part of a team and show initiative

- Be willing to learn and take the initiative to read up on the pupil’s needs

- Have experience of working with primary aged children

- Have a caring, cheerful and conscientious disposition

- Show resilience and determination

- Have the energy and enthusiasm to keep up with an energetic and active child
