We welcome applications from both NQTs (currently completing their teacher training) and more experienced teachers of KS3 and KS4.
Thornden is an oversubscribed, outstanding school serving the Chandler’s Ford and surrounding area with over 1400 students on roll.
We have an ambitious ethos based on high expectations for all, students are proud of their academic and wider achievements. The belief in their own success and ability to succeed continues beyond our school with a high percentage of Thornden students excelling at local colleges and then at further and higher education.
Thornden is a busy and dynamic school with a strong focus on developing the whole child. We have a vibrant performing arts department that encourages students to embrace a rich cultural education beyond the more traditional subjects. Alongside our formal curriculum provision, we offer a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities including sporting clubs and teams, author visits, Duke of Edinburgh Award and trips within the UK and abroad. We firmly believe that by engaging students and encouraging enjoyment we inspire them to learn and achieve therefore helping them to develop into fully contributing and happy members of our community.
In the provisional results for 2019, 90% of our students achieved 5 or more 9-4 grades including English and Maths and 54% achieved the English Baccalaureate. Our value added performance is high and we were graded outstanding in every category in our last Ofsted Inspection.
Science is a very successful department that is built on collaboration and teamwork. The department’s results are consistently high and in 2019 based on provisional results 88% of students entered achieved 9-4 Combined Science, 99% achieved 9-4 in Chemistry, Biology and Physics. 50% of students achieved at least one grade 7 in science. Teaching within the department benefits from a strong team of specialist teachers. Each lab is well resourced; we have an excellent team of technicians and a well-equipped prep room.
